From an alumni newsletter I get this line:
xxx is a passionate advocate for HIV/AIDS
Â I have no doubt that the person being honored is not enamored of HIV/AIDS and does not wish to spread it far and wide. In fact, it seems quite the opposite, that his life’s work has been to eradicate the disease and lessen the suffering it causes. I have seen a similar phrase applied to other causes such as “an active Breast Cancer supporter”â€¦ Has this phrasing become acceptable and understood and I am just behind on this?
